Harry Potter:The Boy who Taught Me

The idea of writing about someone on whom seven breathtaking books and innumerable fanfiction has been written, may sound ludicrous to many but I wanted to write about Harry because I have learned things from this particular character that probably no other breathing being could've taught me.
The journey started when I was eleven or twelve years old and we started watching these movies about an eleven year old abused boy who was invited to a magical school, had black messy hair and round framed spectacles. The most striking thing about him was that he wore spectacles. As an eleven year old bespectacled girl, I was totally in awe of him. Because in almost every other story the protagonist was extraordinary or at least had extraordinary eyesight or if otherwise s/he would eventually give up wearing spectacles because somehow, miraculously their eyesight improved. That never happened to Harry and I am thankful for that. He taught me that sometimes life will push you and  break you. But it's in your hands to make the right choice. He was, of course, the chosen one but he wasn't prodigious. He scored less marks and liked a girl but wasn't brave enough(ironically) to ask her out. He wasn't able to  deliver a speech when he was confronted by a group of certain teenagers, he had flaws, just like everyone else. All his life, he had lost so much and kept losing his loved ones. He made me realize that life is not a fairy tale  and things can turn sour even when you've magical powers because that's life's way of maintaining an equilibrium. He taught me that righteousness is a matter of choice. He taught me that sometimes you ought to forgive people even if they were wrong because everyone is fighting their own battle and the motives behind their actions could be completely different than what we deciphered. He taught me that it's perfectly fine to have fears but it's more important to try to overcome them. He taught me that we all have hidden desires and secrets and that, it is a part of basic human nature and it's incurable. Obviously, at times he was stupid but that told me that it's alright to make mistakes. He taught me that your goodness must not depend on the person next to you ; even if it means saving your foes.

Of course, I am thankful to JK Rowling for giving me a wonderful childhood and teaching me life lessons in the most magical manner. I have no idea what Harry Potter means to others but for me he'll always be- Harry Potter:The Boy who Taught Me.
